Import and Export Customs Procedures

Document preparation

Importing or exporting goods requires the preparation of relevant documentation such as commercial invoices, shipping documents (e.g. bill of lading or freight contract), insurance policies, packing lists, etc. These documents are often required to comply with regulatory requirements for Thai and international trade.

Customs Broker

Typically, an importer or exporter will entrust a professional customs broker to handle the customs declaration process. The customs broker is responsible for submitting the necessary documents to the Thai Customs Department and handling all necessary declarations and payments.

Customs declaration

The customs declaration agency will submit the declaration documents of imported or exported goods to the Thai Customs, including the description, quantity, value, proof of origin, etc. The customs will review and approve the declaration documents.

Duties and taxes

Depending on the nature and value of the goods, you may be required to pay import duties, VAT or other taxes. These charges are usually borne by the importer and are settled during the customs process.

Inspection and Release

Customs may inspect some goods to ensure they meet safety standards and regulatory requirements. Once the inspection is passed and the relevant payment is completed, the goods can be released and enter or leave Thailand.

Regulatory requirements

Certain goods may be subject to additional regulatory requirements, such as licenses, health certificates or special permits. The importer or exporter needs to ensure that the goods comply with these requirements and obtain the necessary licenses or certificates in advance.
